OLD BOYS RUGBY

Brothers Rugby Club Sydney is the rugby club representing old boys of St Pius X College. The club was formed in 1947 when the school was called Christian Brothers Chatswood (before the change to St Pius X in 1954). Christian Brothers Old Boys (CBOB’s) have a long and proud history of representing the blue ‘n’ gold in the Sydney suburban competitions. At the 2005 AGM it was passed that CBOB’s change our name to Brothers Rugby Club Sydney (BRCS). This move was to align ourselves more closely to the national Christian Brothers Old Boys (CBOB) Rugby network predominantly in Qld including Brothers Brisbane and also has an affiliate in WA.

Along with the affiliated clubs across Australia, Brothers Rugby Club Sydney is now also affiliated with the Marist Rugby Federation in New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. Over 30 clubs in all. As a result of this affiliation, Brothers Rugby Club Sydney along with Brothers Brisbane, has the opportunity to send a representative each year to participate in the Marist Federation U23’s team which plays other representative teams across NZ. The Marist squad includes boys from each club in the federation including boys from the South Pacific Islands and Brothers Sydney and Brisbane. A truly international flavour.

In 2008 two recent SPX Old Boys were the first ever to be nominated to represent Brothers Sydney on the tour, Daniel Rohanna (05) and Adam Ennis (05). Of the four games played, Marist Fed. won all four with Adam scoring a try. The boys described the experience as; “the rugby experience of a life time”.

The long list of premierships won over the years, is testament to the strength of the club, through its formative years and into the modern era. Currently the club fields five grades and a colts (U21’s) team in the first division of the Sydney Suburban Rugby Competition. BRCS recent successes include, 4 first grade grand final victories and 3 club championships in 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014, plus premiership titles in 2nd grade and 4th grade and grand final appearances for colts in 2012.

This move was to align ourselves more closely to the national Christian Brothers Old Boys (CBOB) Rugby network which is very strong throughout Qld. and also has an affiliate in WA.

Brothers are and always have been a social rugby club, with an emphasis on enjoyment through participation. There is a grade of rugby for players of all levels of skill, ability, fitness and girth. We play competitively, but ensure that we enjoy our time representing Brothers.

All players of any ability are welcome at Brothers as it is a great place to continue your rugby enjoyment. Brothers colts side encourages any recent school leavers to consider joining your old boys rugby union club!
