Alec Ramsbottom: Oscar from The Odd Couple by Neil Simon

The plot concerns two mismatched roommates: the neat, uptight Felix Ungar and the slovenly, easy going Oscar Madison. The monologue explores fatherhood, responsibilities and marriage, as Oscar struggles to come to terms with his broken relationships and lifestyle.

 

 

Ashley Johnson: Mr Kelly from Teaching Macbeth by Hugh Laurie

Mr Kelly, a year 10 English teacher, attempts to introduce Shakespeare’s Macbeth to his very unenthused class. At the same time, he is getting assessed by the head of English faculty as his job is on the line. Originally written as a stand-up-comedy speech this has been adapted for the HSC by Patrick Lane.

 

Charlie Hamill: Johnny Rooster from Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth

Johnny Rooster Byron is an ex-daredevil who spends his days and nights partying, horsing around and telling stories in the woods. However, it’s through the threat of eviction, that Johnny’s stories teach the local kids, and himself, the true meaning of his connection with the forest, to which he is being evicted from.

 

Tristan Jung: The Brother from Some People Talk about Violence by Lulu Razack

The brother sees a psychologist to talk through the complicated relationship he has with his sister. The sister seems to have a hold over him that he can’t or won’t explain. However, is he even telling the truth?

 

Reuben Jacobson: Jerry from The Zoo Story by Edward Albee

The story is about how a man who is consumed with loneliness, starts up a conversation with another man on a bench in Central Park, New York. He tells him the story of “Jerry and the Dog” however, his motives are not necessarily as innocent as what they might seem.
