Aidan Lee – Bedside Cabinet
For my 2025 Year 12 Industrial Technology Major Work Project, I designed and constructed a timber bedside cabinet. My cabinet has personalised features like an inlaid skull with pistons and a spanner on the top, as well as a set of turbochargers on the doors. Additionally, a tucked-away bottle shelf below the drawers was included. A variety of different hardwoods and joints, like Tasmanian Oak, Merbau, Bluegum, and Pacific Maple, Half Blind and Through dovetails, Stopped and Through Housing Joints, Corner Tongue and Grooves, and Butt Joints, were used to make my project. I also decided to install Adjustable legs, Soft-Close Draw runners and Hinges, as well as curved Brass handles for the drawers and doors to increase the sense of quality. This Bedside Cabinet was designed as an upgraded replacement for my current one, as it broke due to old age.
Matthew Dixon – Men’s Valet Box
My 2025 HSC Industrial Technology Major Project is a Men’s Valet Box. The box is comprised of three elements, the frame which was made out of Pacific Maple, the lid which was built using Radiata Pine, Sydney Blue Gum and Pacific Maple, and the insert which was crafted using Sydney Blue Gum. The purpose of this project is to act as a functional and useful storage box, where I can store essentials like my wallet, car keys, sunglasses as well as any bulkier or special items such as documents. Ultimately, I am pleased with the final product.
Bailey Yu – Dresser
My 2025 HSC Industrial Technology Major work is a dresser. I have made this dresser out of pine this is because it fitted into the budget and is easy to work with. The dresser was made to be used at my house. It was made as a means of replacing the existing dresser in my room. I’ve designed it so that it can fit in my bedroom. Overall, I am happy with the final result.
Freddie Allert – Modern Round Coffee Table
For my Year 12 major work, I designed and built a modern round coffee table that combines functionality, strength, and aesthetic appeal. The centrepiece of the design is a fluted exterior created from individually cut and placed dowels, giving the table a refined, contemporary look while concealing its internal joinery. Throughout the project, I experimented with advanced joinery techniques, inlay work, and sustainable timber selection to balance craftsmanship with design. This process challenged my precision, problem-solving, and finishing skills, while also deepening my understanding of how structure and style can merge seamlessly. The final piece represents not only a functional piece of furniture but also the culmination of my woodworking journey, showcasing my creativity, technical growth, and commitment to quality design.
Finlay Craig – Coffee Table
My project is a coffee table that features elegantly curved legs created through wood bending techniques. It will be placed in the main communal seating area near the kitchen, where it will serve a much-needed purpose, as no table previously existed in that space. I selected Victorian Ash for the tabletop, paired with Tasmanian Blackwood for the legs, to achieve both strength and a refined, contrasting aesthetic.
Angus Hunt – Console Table
This folio presents my Year 12 HSC Major Project – a console table featuring four functional drawers and Z-shaped structural posts. The project was constructed using American walnut and pine, chosen for their strength, durability, and visual contrast. Additional materials included drawer runners, nails, putty, and clear finishes to ensure both functionality and a refined appearance. Throughout the project I utilised a variety of machines and hand tools such as the drop saw, band saw, routers, table saw, and drills to achieve precision and quality in the final product. This piece demonstrates my ability to plan, problem-solve, and apply advanced woodworking techniques to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture item.
Orlando Domenic – Japanese Style Coffee Table
This coffee table was carefully crafted using radiata pine and Sydney blue gum timber, drawing strong inspiration from traditional Japanese furniture, which is renowned for its elegant curves and intricate inlay work. I plan to place it in my living room, where it will serve as both a striking centrepiece and a practical surface for holding drinks, TV remotes, and other everyday items while relaxing and watching television. I am extremely proud of the finished product, as the process allowed me to develop and refine new woodworking skills and techniques that I had not previously attempted, greatly expanding my craftsmanship and creativity.
Nathan Formosa – Side Table
This piece is crafted from rich Tasmanian Blackwood, featuring a striking decorative inlay made from multiple timber species. Inspired by Japanese woodworking, it combines elegant curves with intricate detailing for a refined, contrasting aesthetic. Sustainability was a key focus, with recycled timber from an old deck repurposed into the drawers. The result is a unique, handcrafted design that blends traditional artistry with contemporary style.
George Mirabelli – Side Table
My project is nightstand to add to my bedroom to be an aesthetic piece of furniture made of Brush box timber. It will store all my daily belongings and items for easy access and storage through the draw and bottom shelf. Various design features such as curved legs and inlays were used to increase appeal and aesthetic.
Oliver Rix – Bedside Table
This is a custom-made bedside table crafted from Tasmanian Oak, featuring a smooth finish and a sleek drawer for storage. The open shelf above the drawer is perfect for books, small electronics, or everyday essentials. I’ll be using it next to my bed to hold a lamp, phone, and other personal items. It will be kept in my bedroom, adding both functionality and a stylish touch to the space.
Josh Du Moulin – Bedside Table
This handcrafted European beech bedside table is both practical and personal. I’ll be using it to hold my essentials and keep things close by. Over the past six months, I’ve worked carefully to shape and finish this project, and I’m really proud of how it’s turned out.

This bedside table was handcrafted from Tasmanian Oak, chosen for its durability, fine grain, and warm natural tones. The piece is designed with both function and aesthetics in mind, complementing my bedroom space while showcasing quality craftsmanship. Its construction demonstrates a balance of traditional woodworking techniques and modern design, resulting in a practical and timeless piece of furniture.
Jack Brown – Merbau TV Cabinet
This Merbau TV Cabinet stands as a testament to craftsmanship and functionality. Meticulously designed, this piece seamlessly blends utility with beauty, offering a versatile storage solution for various items. Crafted from the finest Merbau wood, known for its durability and rich coloration, this cabinet exudes a timeless charm that complements any living space. The sleek design incorporates a spacious drawer, perfect for storing special items like jewellery. Lined with a soft luxurious felt insert, the drawer ensures that delicate pieces are kept safe and secure. In addition to its practicality, this creation features a thoughtfully integrated drink shelf, adding a touch of sophistication to the piece. This unique inclusion allows for a convenient space to display and storing and crafting beverages, making it ideal for entertaining guests or enjoying a quiet evening at home. With its attention to detail and versatile functionality, the Merbau TV Cabinet is not just a furniture piece but a work of art that elevates any room it graces.
Jonah Steele – Whiskey Cabinet
This intricately designed whiskey cabinet, crafted from Tasmanian oak with a black walnut water-based varnish, features a secret side drawer cleverly concealed with fake dovetails and a glass lid secured by a golden piano hinge to enhance its vintage aesthetic. Beyond its craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal, the piece holds deep personal meaning, as I created it with the intention of one day passing it down to my future son as a family heirloom. In doing so, I hope to honour my family’s long history of owning pubs across New Zealand and Australia, preserving that heritage for generations to come.
Joshua Smith – Surfboard Coffee Table
My design and construction of my surfboard-shaped coffee table is a project inspired by my connection to the ocean. To capture the calming and natural flow of the sea, I created an epoxy resin cast incorporating seashells I hand-picked from down south in Shoalhaven Heads. The tabletop, draw frame and legs were crafted from Tasmanian Oak, Blackbutt, and Pine, chosen for their aesthetic appeal and ability to reflect the natural tones of the coastal environment.
The table legs feature an inlay design using contrasting Jarrah timber, with each leg turned on the wood lathe to achieve a rounded form that complements the surfboard shape of the tabletop. The two drawers provide functional storage space, constructed using rebate joints after initial plans for dovetail joints were adjusted due to time constraints.
This project combines natural materials, thoughtful design, and practical craftsmanship to create a piece that not only enhances my living space but also symbolises my strong personal relationship with the ocean.
Ryan Sutherland – Bedside Table
This bedside table was constructed using Tasmanian Oak, selected for its durability, stability, and fine grain, which provide both strength and an aesthetically pleasing finish. To enhance the design, a Sydney Blue Gum inlay was incorporated into the legs, adding a refined detail that emphasises the structure of the piece. The top panel features a contrasting inlay design combining Sydney Blue Gum and Radiata Pine, which creates a visual balance through the use of darker and lighter tones. These inlays not only highlight the natural beauty of the selected timbers but also demonstrate precision and advanced craftsmanship in their execution. I made use of many joints throughout the construction including a cross section for my brace, box pins for my drawer carcass and more.
Connor Jory – Liquor Cabinet
I made this liquor cabinet for my parents as an appreciation for all the support they have given me throughout my school career. I decided to make this to honour my family’s history in early Australian wine making. The wood used is recycled North American Forest Oregon which my great uncle sourced from the roofing of the Melbourne parliament during its renovations. I restored and reused this over 200-year-old timber for its intricate grain and to reduce my environmental impact. I applied myself to carefully designing and constructing this piece, including a range of features such as lighting, glass, inlays and hardware.
Jack Macdonald – Kitchen Island Trolley
I have designed a kitchen island trolley with interior shelving . I is designed it to fit in my kitchen at home, as it will be replacing the current kitchen trolley due to a lack of storage space and growing defects it has because of its old age. The shelf I have produced and manufactured is extremely durable due to the use of Tasmanian Oak and Blackbutt timber, which serves as a perfect shelf to store the appropriate liquor, books and household items that it will have stored on and within it.
Beau Gaughan – Outdoor Table
I am going to be designing a outdoor table with the top of the table being a nice bit of Huon Pine as my top piece and thin bit of Tasmanian oak as my bent leg piece, this will be used as a outdoor table to put stuff on. I will be designing it to fit on my deck next to our dart board. It will be replacing the current two mini tables because over time it has gotten very worn out due to all the use of it and is just not high enough for us to be able to stand around the dart board.
Caelan Barros – Portable Cooler Stand
For my HSC major work, using Tasmanian Oak, I have created a portable cooler stand that combines functionality with quality woodworking skills. The design includes practical features such as a space for glasses, a pocket for wine and champagne bottles, and an inbuilt esky with an irrigation system which allows for easy drainage. I have built a core piece for our backyard entertainment area that can serve as both a cooler and cocktail bar during gatherings.
Kobi Mendel – Bespoke Cabinet
My major work was design and construct to be a bespoke cabinet featuring doors, drawers, and interior shelving. Built for storage while maintaining a strong and refined aesthetic presence. The design will be tailored to complement the dimensions, lighting, and overall style of my dining room.
Lucas Halim – Whisky Cabinet
I made an Asian styled Whisky Cabinet. It features blossom tree branches on the front, which are meticulous fitted inlays and some leaves are burnt to create depth and shading. The cabinet uses a variety of timber colours to create contrast and interest. I am very proud of the final result.
