Group Project: The Assignment

Three students come together to work on a group task in which they must agree on the best technologies affecting the human race throughout history. Will they complete their task on schedule, how will they rate these major inventions or will the past be re-written to suit the present.

Costume Design: Girl Asleep – Presented by John Badger-Rahme

Girl Asleep is a journey into the absurd, scary and beautiful mind of the teenage brain. John’s costume design for ‘Girl Asleep’ serves to display the universal struggle of growing up, and how young people try to understand their changing world through the lens of their childhood. By harnessing the symbols, motifs and imagery related to Grimm fairytales – cautionary tales told to kids – and combining them with elements of 1970s’ Australian suburbia. John is visually displaying the inner turmoil of the protagonist Greta and her newfound understanding of her world.

John will be displaying his work from his Trial examination as his final designs have been sent to NESA for marking.

Performance: Blackout – Presented by Jason Kristianto

Blackout by Davey Anderson, is based off a true story about a young man charged with attempted murder who tries to piece together the events in his life that have brought him into a secure care unit and threaten to keep him locked up. This gripping monologue has been reinterpreted by Jason, drawing deeply from Indonesian cultural heritage, to create a work of personal and social resonance where James is shaped as a product of intersecting cultures and himself a victim of a violent upbringing.

Performance: The Lieutenant of Inishmore – Presented by Jonty Cortis-Jones

Set in Northern Ireland during the 1993 peace process, Martin McDonagh uses black humour and outrageous violence to explore the language and actions of terror. He does so with increasing satire and humour as perfectly presented by the character of Padraic in this excerpt from the play. This performance explores the darkly dangerous world of Padraic, an unhinged Irish paramilitary who torments a captive, James, with grotesque threats and bizarre banter. However, his bravado collapses when news of his beloved cat, Wee Thomas, reaches him.
