2020 HSC Results
Congratulations to the Year 12 Class for 2020 on their excellent results in such a challenging year, which makes these high results across the board particularly pleasing.
The Top ATAR was 98.40 achieved by Riad Lahoud, an outstanding student with excellent results in English, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics and Studies of Religion II. These high results meant Riad was included in the prestigious list of All Rounders. An ‘all-rounder’ is a student who has achieved a Band 6 in 10 or more units.
The results were strong at the top end of the range with 35 students (25%) awarded ATARs over 90, and a total of 70 students with ATARs above 80. The boys gained excellent results in a range of subjects, covering the humanities and the sciences. The majority of our courses were above state average, with five courses more than 10 marks above the average.
Sixty eight (68) students were listed as Distinguished Achievers, achieving a combined total of 121 mentions in the Honours Lists across a range of subjects – a fine achievement for a non-selective school, in which students can achieve at the highest level while enjoying the benefits of being in a balanced Catholic environment. Boys who put in the effort are given every opportunity to achieve success through the many religious, social, sporting and cultural activities the school provides. This overall success in a range of activities led to over 30% of the cohort being offered Early Entry into University.
The College acknowledges that these results come from strong teaching at school, combined with great support from the home. It is gratifying to see the strong results at the end of a year that demanded new methodologies of teaching and the refining of new skills by teachers and students in the use of technology. It is particularly pleasing to note that so many of the boys balanced their academic achievements with a high level of involvement in the College’s extra-curricular program, or were active as student leaders. The College Captain, Lachlan Mathie, who achieved an excellent ATAR of 96.30, was an inspirational participant and leader in so many areas of school life.
Congratulations too for Daniel Halverson and Luke Thompson who were nominated by NESA for ONStage for their individual drama performances and to Kieran Zucconi, Music 2 who was also nominated for ENCORE for his performance in Music.
Beyond the HSC Results we are all so proud of the Class of 2020 for what they have achieved and all that they will go on to achieve in their lives. They have been greatly tested by events beyond their control and have risen to the challenge superbly. They embraced every aspect of school life and the College is very proud of their efforts. They will make a difference in whatever their chosen direction into the future.
