Industrial Technology

Max Akehurst- Poker table

I made a sturdy poker table with drink holders. I have kept the shape of a hexagonal table and incorporated the essential features of a poker table. The single leg is turned and archers out as the decorative feet stabilise the table. The table is finished in an oil coating and red felt to give a classic poker table look.

Louis Cortese –  Hallway Table

My Year 12 woodwork major project, I designed and crafted a resin hall way table. The project involved selecting high-quality eucalyptus pine, while applying a fine finish to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal. This project allowed me to showcase my woodworking skills and creativity, resulting in a functional and visually appealing piece.

Matteo Dall’Amico – Extending coffee table

I crafted and made an extending table with a chessboard in the centre. To accomplish this piece, I had to use Redgum and Blackbutt to construct the table. I used recycled timber from my house as we had just finished a renovation. This piece will be used as a coffee table with the options to play chess at the same time.

Billy Dunstan – Decorative hallway table

The construction of this live edge decorative hallway table was made from California red wood timber. This design was made due to the white walls at home and needed a nice open colour that would catch the eye of many individuals from the colour of the wood to the white epoxy river through the middle.

Daniel Formosa – Coffee table

The Coffee table I created represented a more medieval style of woodworking with the centre cross inlay and wood turned legs. I reused recycled merbau timber from and old deck to create the base of my project, as well as pine, walnut and blue gum wood for the inlay. I aimed to display a high standard of skill, demonstrate a high level of complexity, while still allowing practical and suitable use for its intended location. Overall, I am extremely proud of my achievements and happy with the final product.

Asher Ghannoum – TV cabinet

For my Industrial technology major work, I have designed and constructed a TV cabinet with a modernistic style. The cabinet will be a decorative piece designed to be placed in my living room infront of the couch to hold the television at a perfect height.

Joshua Giersch– Poker Table

This project is a beautiful example of how my two passions, woodworking artistry and the social dynamics of card games—converge. This project began with my steadfast admiration for the artistry that comes with woodworking. Making a poker table provides me with a special opportunity to demonstrate both my technical skill and my dedication to creating a work that fits in with its surroundings.

Nicholas Gladen – Epoxy dining room table

Description: My dining room table aimed to be a practical and extremely aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture, it is made from Birdseye Blackbutt on the table-top and normal blackbutt on the legs, which is accompanied by the titanium white epoxy resin filled in the centre.

Reasoning to my build choice: I decided to build a dining room table as in my home our general tone of the house is white, and it needed to be accompanied by a white themed dining table, replacing the old darker colour wood dining table.

This project was a great success, and I have achieved what I had planned at the end of last year.

William Holm – Shoe Storage Unit

For my Major HSC work I created a hidden shoe storage unit that doubles as a bedside table. The reason I have chosen this product is both functional and aesthetic. With the limited space in my room to store my shoes this unit offers a unique solution with is rounded form and rotating lazy Sussan style rack internally fitted to the unit. The shoe storage unit could be used as a feature piece in a walk-in wardrobe or boutique fitting shop.

Matthew Hunt – Chest of Drawers

Inspiration for my project has stemmed from an extensive range of sources. The main designers who have influenced my chest of drawers are Duncan Phyfe and Giordana Marchetti both creating complex designs that include foreign timber. These cabinet makers/woodworkers have inspired me to create a chest of drawers with my unique design; it will be high quality and very durable with a glass polish finish.

Bohan Johnson – Dart board

I made an attractive dart board wall unit. I really like playing darts with my friends and this unit ticked all the boxes I wanted. It is multifunctional and can house my collection of darts and perform the important task of keeping score.

Oscar Kalcher – Whiskey cabinet

I’ve designed and built a unique coffee table with an integrated whiskey cabinet, crafted from American oak to showcase its beautiful grain. This project challenged me to apply a wide range of skills, from problem-solving to traditional woodworking, resulting in a distinctive piece of furniture built to last a lifetime.

William Lineen – Cabinet

I designed and constructed a large side cabinet with multiple draws. The Initial intent was to have my Television and audio setup housed in the unit, yet the piece is versatile and can stand alone in a hallway.

Thomas Lough – Infinity Table

I have designed and built an infinity table to be used as a bedside table with a working draw and LED lights to provide the infinity effect. The primary material used to construct the infinity table will be Tasmanian Oak. I have chosen this design as I have always been drawn to more modern woodworking culture and methods of artistic practice. My bedside table will have a circular tabletop with a tinted circular glass panel in the middle so when the infinity lights are off it will be black.

William Lyall – Coffee table

Rustic coffee table, made from South Australian pink gum from the family farm and river red gum from the Mallee. The plan was to create a solid coffee table that will stand the test of time, resulting in a heavy robust table that consists of challenging joints which tested the capabilities of the schools machinery.

Andrew May – Rocking Chair

The inspiration for my project has come from a range of designers including Marco Bogazzi and Nick Pedulla who both have minimalist, sleek designs incorporating local Australian timber. These woodworkers have motivated me to design and build a high quality, modern style rocking chair built to last indoors and outdoors. Extensive research as well as my own ideas will all need to be involved to assemble this project to the best of my ability.

Noah Miller – Coffee table

My major work is a coffee table made in a moder style. Featuring curved legs and chunky slab top. The joinery is hidden throughout the design and a final dark stain was applied to suit the final room it will be placed in.

Zeke Renolds – Coffee table

My major work is a coffee table inspired by French furniture. It Features a slab top with flowing curves in the leg design. The joinery is hidden throughout the design and a final mahogany brown stain was applied to enhance the unique grain in the timber.

Rory Squires – Coffee table

My major work is a coffee table that heavily utilises the process of wood bending by gluing wood laminations in an arced shape. It was designed using 3d modelling software with the intention of creating a unique piece with challenging features to craft something special. It utilises a mix of maple, pine, Tasmanian oak and plywoods used for their range of colours as well as properties that where ideal for certain features of the project.

Darcy Taylor – Monopoly Table

For my HSC industrial technology timber project, I aspired to design and create a quality, fully functioning and portable monopoly table. Complete with a variety of difficult woodworking skills, techniques and high-quality wood, the project will have multiple uses between friends and family.

William Waite – Cabinet

My project was constructed using Tasmanian Oak for the body/carcass, drawers and doors, spare flooring Spotted Gum for the top piece and spare Marine Ply for the drawer bottoms. My project will be used as an entertainment unit which will go beneath a TV in my room, and will double as storage space for clothes, gaming consoles and whatever else I may need it for.

Murray Wood – Cabinet/ pool cue holder

My year 12 woodwork project was created for the purpose of matching and assisting the pool table that my grandpa once made. I used my skills to create a large cabinet that had pool cue holders running up the sides. I used Tasmanian blackwood and Huon pine to create the project, and it resulted in being better than I was hoping for.
