St Pius College wins the 2019 CIS Football Cup
Congratulations to the College 1st XI Football team on their well deserved win.
The CIS Football Cup is a knock out competition for independent schools across NSW affiliated to NSW Combined Independent Schools (CIS).
On Wednesday 19th June St Pius X College Chatswood played SEDA College at Football NSW headquarters at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood. Over three hundred spectators were treated to some of the best schools football finals before St Pius X College took out the 2019 NSW CIS Cup Final defeating SEDA College in a thrilling penalty shootout.
SEDA College, who were taking part in their first ever NSW CIS Cup Final, took the early lead in the third minute of the match as they stamped their authority on the match in the first half leading at the break 1-0.
The second half saw a shift in momentum as the Pius boys grew more into the game and got their just reward in heartbreaking circumstances for SEDA College, scoring an equaliser two minutes from time.
Extra-time saw both teams go at it but no winner was seen which meant the dreaded penalty shootouts were needed to finalise who would be crowned Champions at the end of the evening. St Pius goal keeper Patrick Moore claimed school cult status playing a pivotal role in the 4-1 win on penalty shootouts which marked their a third Cup victory since 2012.
St Pius College as the winners of the CIS Football Cup will now go on to compete in the NSW All Schools Football Champion Schools Final Series playing the winning teams from both NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) and NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC).
