Introduction

Why are our tropical rainforests disappearing and what can be done to save them?

In this Web Quest, your team, consisting of a Sociologist, a Geographer, a Biologist and an Environmentalist, will journey to the tropical rainforests of the Amazon in South America to collect information to present to an International Environmental Summit. Each member of the group will explore their respective subject area:

Cultures and Customs

Geography and Climate

Animal and Plant Life

Environmental Issues

The group's presentation will also pinpoint major causes of tropical rainforest destruction and make suggestions to curb this destruction.

The Task

Your group will create a report on the Amazon Rainforest. It will consist of this:

Four individual sections, Cultures and Customs, Geography and Climate, Animal and Plant Life and Environmental Issues. Each member of your group writes one of these.

Additionally, there will be a group 5 minute oral presentation using Powerpoint (showing major causes of Tropical Rainforest destruction and possible solutions).

2. Define what you need to find out.

4. Find the information and make notes. (Do not print out Websites but copy and paste relevant information into a Word document to print out at the end of your research)

5. Write your section of the report including a bibliography.

6. In your group share the information you have found and brainstorm the causes of rainforest destruction and suggest strategies to prevent or slowdown this destruction.
