St Pus X College teaching programs aim to foster Edmund Rice values through day to day learning activities throughout the curriculum. The College aims to provide relevant, authentic, dynamic and creative learning experiences attentive to the needs of each person, promoting the development of the whole person. All members of the community are encouraged to work to the best of their abilities, to realise their potential and to strive for excellence in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.
Students in Year 7 and 8 study a common curriculum experiencing a wide range of subjects as follows:
- Religious Education
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Technology Mandatory
- Geography
- History
- Music
- Visual Arts
- Personal Development Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
- Year 7 only: Language [French or Italian or Chinese (Mandarin)] - Mandatory 100 hour course
- Year 8 only: School Based Elective Course
Skills and knowledge relating to the use and understanding of information and communication technologies (ICT) is incorporated into the content/skills of all syllabuses.
Classes in Year 7 are streamed in Mathematics.
Students in Year 8 are streamed in English, Mathematics and Science based on information gained in Year 7 from external examinations, classwork, school testing and social factors
Towards the end of Year 8, selected students are invited to participate in the Mathematics Accelerant programme which commences at the beginning of Year 9.
A qualified Gifted and Talented teacher is employed to further extend and enrich the learning of gifted and talented students. Similarly learning support teachers assist those students with special needs and newly arrived students who need assistance with the English language.
